2020 Camp Counselors

Hugo Miguez & Stacy Kay

Hugo and Stacy

We believe in community, and how a tribe of confidence surrounding us can empower us to do things we never thought possible.

We believe in connection. The kind that allows you to feel someone’s heart, someone choices, someone's passion, through one subtle movement. In the waiting, an energy builds between two people and it’s building up to the incredible visual display of emotions that tells a story.

We believe the best dances happen when we hold nothing back and leave our hearts on the dance floor.

We teach people to connect their hearts to their movements, so when the music gives them a blank canvas, their soul is ready to create.

Bonnie & Jerome Subey

Jerome and Bonnie

Bonnie and Jerome met on the dance floor, and from their first contact, the passion was apparent. Even though they come from different countries (with different languages!) and different dance backgrounds, their dance styles complete one another, giving Jerome and Bonnie a specific style entirely their own. Their complementarity as a couple brings out the passion they have for dancing, teaching, and always wanting to improve.

Bonnie and Jerome are active in the Showcase swing competition division, and both are GPDIA-certified judges.

The Camp

Your home for the weekend is the beautiful Krislund Retreat Center, located just 20 minutes from State College, PA.

Camp Accomodations

We're taking you back to the good old days of summer camp. Prepare to make friends! You'll either get your own twin bunk (in one of our awesome camp houses), or be paired with a member of your same group on double beds (4 friends in a super-luxurious cabin).

The camp will provide a top-sheet. You're responsible for bringing your comfiest pillow and blanket.

Meals

We'll provide breakfast and lunch each day, plus dinner on Friday and Saturday, including coffee, tea, and soft drinks at every meal.

We're also stocking up on awesome snacks and drinks to enjoy between workshops and during our late-night socials. (When you register, tell us what your favorites are!)

And, of course, there'll be plenty of s'mores to enjoy by the campfire!

Workshop Space

The first time we set foot into the lodge at Camp Krislund, we knew it was the place to hold Camp Westie. We've never seen a more beautiful, cozy dance floor in all our lives. We can't wait to share it with you! (There'll also be space for individual practice, and private lessons.)

Packing List

What to Bring

  • Pillows and blankets — If you can, bring any sheets, blankets, pillows, and cuddle-pals you need to keep comfy. (If you're coming from far away, let us know, and we'll provide a sheet set for you.)

  • Warm clothing — In case it gets chilly at night
  • Comfy dance shoes
  • Flashlight / Head-lamp — We do a lot of walking around at night.
