Camp Counselors

Bonnie & Jerome Subey

Bonnie and Jerome

Bonnie and Jerome met on the dance floor, and from their first contact, the passion was apparent. Even though they come from different countries (with different languages!) and different dance backgrounds, their dance styles complete one another, giving Jerome and Bonnie a specific style entirely their own. Their complementarity as a couple brings out the passion they have for dancing, teaching, and always wanting to improve.

Bonnie and Jerome are active in the Classic swing competition division, and both are GPDIA certified judges.

Flore & Phillipe Berne

Flore and Phillipe

Philippe comes from the competition world, and Flore from the world of social dancing (Boogie-Woogie, Swing, Salsa, West Coast Swing) — a pairing that adds unique flow and style to their dance.

As a couple, they rose rapidly in national and international competitions and took it to the biggest French stages with Charly Moser's dance company, Feeling Dance Show, known for their numerous TV and live appearances. In 2013, they decided to go full-time as instructors and moved to Montreal, Canada.

Today, they are emerging West Coast Swing Showcase champions, having placed Top-4 at the US Open 2017 and Top-5 at the US Open 2016. They have also won Top-5 placements at several NASDE events since they began competing in the Showcase division in 2014, and they are reigning Canadian Champions, having won back-to-back in 2016 and 2017.

2018 Camp Theme: Your Dance, Your Story

Our favorite dances are alive. Self-expression and musical expression are critical to great dancing. But what is being expressed through the self? Our favorite dances are stories.

In fact, the story is what hooked many of us in the first place. Remember the first time you saw a Showcase or Classic routine on YouTube? We judge dancers based on their competitive success with storytelling!

At Camp Westie 2018, we’re going all in on storytelling in West Coast Swing. All of our pros bring incredible expertise in crafting unique performances. They'll take us further than just picking up patterns and techniques. We'll play, and explore, and create together. You may be surprised to discover just how much story you have inside you waiting to be told.

The Camp

Your home for the weekend is the beautiful Krislund Retreat Center, located just 20 minutes from State College, PA.

Camp Accomodations

We're taking you back to the good old days of summer camp. Prepare to make friends! You'll either get your own twin bunk (in one of our awesome camp houses), or be paired with a member of your same group on double beds (4 friends in a super-luxurious cabin).

The camp will provide a top-sheet. You're responsible for bringing your comfiest pillow and blanket.

We'll provide breakfast and lunch each day, plus dinner on Saturday, including coffee, tea, and soft drinks at every meal.

We're also stocking up on awesome snacks and drinks to enjoy between workshops and during our late-night socials. (When you register, tell us what your favorites are!)

And, of course, there'll be plenty of s'mores to enjoy by the campfire!
